Meet Angela, Our New Social Media Intern

Say hi to Angela, one of Random Agency's newest Social Media Interns! We can't wait to get to know her and what better way to do that than a Q & A?

First, the obvious question: Why did you choose Random Agency?

In the first conversations, I felt drawn to the team because of their passion and creativity for the work they do. I wanted to gain a better understanding of this strategic process through hands-on experience in an internship role and with a dynamic team!

Tell us three Random Facts about yourself.

1). I'm into all things art-related.

2). My favorite director is David Lynch!

3). I learned to write in cursive before print.

If money was no object, where would you go and what would you do?

All around Western Europe! I would like to experience local cuisines and activities- especially those artisanal and nature-related to gain a deep understanding of culture. In addition, I would also make many stops in major fashion and tech hubs to attend events and shows!

Meet Ryan, Our New Marketing Director

Say hi to Ryan, one of Random Agency's newest team members! We can't wait to get to know him and what better way to do that than a Q & A?

First, the obvious question: Why did you choose Random Agency?

Is it lame to say that Random chose me? I bet everybody says that. Maybe not. Either way, I did feel a bit of a magnetic pull towards the Random universe, as I've admired what the company has been doing from a far. Transparently, Random co-founder John Patterson and I worked together at a previous agency, and him and I clicked pretty much from day one. While our career paths went in separate directions after a year of commiserating, I always hoped to work with John again in the future. When I decided to make a move from my previous position, John and Lauren were the first folks I rang up. Lucky for me, they decided to take a chance on me and bring me into the fold. I honestly couldn't be happier to be here!

Tell us three cool things about yourself.

  1. I play in a few bands (I mean, can you get any cooler?) and write songs; it's basically what defines me and gives me an outlet that has allowed me to see the world and get through tough times.
  2. I have an amazing 11-going-on-12-year-old son named Emitt who is a burgeoning basketball star; I absolutely love watching him play and am 100% his biggest fan.
  3. I've ran around 15 half-marathons, one full marathon, and spend most of my Sunday mornings running between 10 and 15 miles; some would argue that this is actually uncool because of how much running can suck (and I would agree, sometimes it does), but I personally love it and credit it with helping me become a better person.

Favorite TV show?

Um, yeah. I watch A LOT of TV, embarrassingly. But I feel like everybody does, so whatever. That said, it's hard to pick just one show, but some of the best I've seen in recent years are Severance, Ted Lasso, Succession, Barry, Fargo, Westworld, Yellowjackets and Game of Thrones. I'm also a sucker for terrible, raunchy, substanceless reality TV, most notably Vanderpump Rules and Love is Blind.

If money was no object, where would you go and what would you do?

I would absolutely love to take my son to watch the NBA Finals courtside - doesn't matter the team, doesn't matter the place per se, but a perfect scenario would be a game 7 in the hometown of the team who ends up winning that night. It would be amazing to watch all that from that close, and see them crown a champion after playing 7 hard-fought games.

What's in your refrigerator right now?

Food.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

The ability to sleep for 1 hour but make it feel like 8 or 9 hours - just so I could get more done during the day.

What's your favorite childhood memory?

Too many to count, but I have one that sticks out where my grandma took me out on a fun day when I was probably 11 or 12 years old. We went golfing, we drove around, we ate something called a loose burger at a restaurant that I can't remember the name of. It wasn't anything completely or totally special, but I think about that day a lot when I think of her. She was an awesome person and I miss her.

Name one thing you wish you could do better.

Just one? I just should probably say something related to mental health or handling tough situations better, but for real, I wish I could actually cook something edible that didn't resemble hot garbage on a summer day. I mean, I probably could if I tried, but I've been lucky to be surrounded by great cooks all my life. I can make a mean grilled cheese, though.

Which three things would you take to a desert island?

My guitar, my son, and my girlfriend. We would probably die but at least we would be together and I could sing us some songs about how it would have been smarter to bring a knife or harpoon or some twine or something.

What is the last book you read?

Smart Brevity by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen and Roy Schwartz  & How to Write One Song by Jeff Tweedy

What is your favorite account to follow on Instagram?

Even though I don't drink anymore (sober for 6 years, baby!), I love @drunkpeopledoingthings - it's a great reminder to stay off the sauce and it also is a never ending source of people falling, getting slapped, jumping off of rooftops, running into street lamps, and just, generally, acting a fool. I'm happy there are people out there willing to embarrass themselves on the internet so I don't have to (anymore).

Meet Stefany, Our Newest Account Executive

Say hi to Stefany, Random Agency's newest Account Executive! We can't wait to get to know her and what better way to do that than a Q & A?

First, the obvious question: Why did you choose Random Agency?

It's funny because, throughout the process of being laid off and trying to rediscover myself and what I wanted, I realized that at the rate I was going, I wasn't exactly growing to my fullest potential. I was a Jack of all Trades, but a Master of None to an extent. So, I needed to guide my path toward a specialized category of Marketing/Advertising to then grow that specific skill set.

Through my search, I found myself being drawn more and more toward the world of social and paid media. Then, That Random Agency came up on my LinkedIn! Since the moment of applying, it was a chain of fortuitous events that lead me here and I can't be more thankful.

Tell us three cool things about yourself.

Get ready for this

  1. I am a first-generation American of Romanian immigrant parents.
  2. I have a love for the pop-culture world “ especially when it comes to movies, actors, and artists.
  3. I have a personal goal to tour and hike at all the U.S. National Parks.

Bonus: I have a small interest in fitness and nutrition “ all about those micronutrients!

Favorite TV show?

Favorites for different reasons

If money was no object, where would you go and what would you do?

If money were no object, I would take myself, my husband and our two dogs on a tour of the Netherlands mountains and valleys during the summer. Where we could hike, have fun in tulip fields and possibly live happily ever after.

What's in your refrigerator right now?

Oh. Uh this is awkward, I have hardly anything in there right now since I just got back from a trip. But there is some salmon defrosting for dinner tonight and some fried rice leftovers. (likely to go together this evening)

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Walking through walls like Kitty Pryde in the X-Men. I mean, just the coolest.

What's your favorite childhood memory?

My parents would take my brother and me on camping trips all the time as kids. I remember one time we went out on one of these trips with our boat hooked up to my Dad's truck, so you know it was at least somewhere with water. Throughout the trip, it happened to be my brother's birthday and so my parents look into a restaurant down the lake across from our campsite for dinner that night.

We made reservations, cleaned up, and took the boat to the old marina that I could only imagine as anything else but cool at the time. I must have been about 6 years old, so anything is cool honestly. I remember seeing turtles and fish come up to the surface in the boat bays. I guess people would feed them often because they were NOT scared of us.

We walk up the hill from the marina and get into what I could probably paint as a local little dive diner by today's standards, but back then it was a fancy place that we'd never been. We sit down for a while and when it comes to getting our orders, the waiter asks me what I want. Of course, I haven't even glanced at the menu. I mean how could I? I was so young, I didn't know what was going on. So, then I tell them, Spaghetti!

They didn't have that on the menu.

I'm pretty sure this place was a burger bar. They probably didn't even stock noodles for pasta. The waiter looked at me and to my surprise to this day, said, Okay, sweetie.

You know, it was my brother's birthday, but when they came out with a plate of poorly made noodles and sauce, it felt like my birthday.

Name one thing you wish you could do better.

I wish I could run faster per mile but with my stubby short legs, every 2 steps for me is 1 step for any person of average height.

Which three things would you take to a desert island?

  1. The food: Endless supply of peanuts
  2. The friend: My dog, Dotson
  3. The escape plan: The police phone booth from Dr. Who to transport out of there

What is the last book you read?

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollen

It's basically about all of the foods and food-like substances we eat, where they come from in nature, as well as what to look out for nutritionally in certain food items.

What is your favorite account to follow on Instagram?

Ooooh, this is a new one for me actually, but @bigmootoo. It's a dog influencer from Thailand that is the funniest meme-like dog I have ever seen. I mean look at him as a little cop.

How Can You Use Twitch To Market Your Business?

When you hear the word Twitch what do you think of? Live streaming? Video Games? Unless you're already a successful content creator, business opportunities may not be the first thing that come to mind but it should be!

Originally designed for gamers, the Amazon-owned platform has recently made a big shift into all different categories, from politics to music, and even sports. Have a talent or passion you want to share with the world? This is a platform designed for building communities!

Here's how you can use Twitch to take your business to the next level.

Build Your Brand

Twitch can open you and your company up to engaging with potential and current customers. For example, the 1,000 Dreams Fund non-profit did a partnership with Twitch where they were able to introduce an entirely new audience to their brand.

In the partnership they offered some female Twitch streamers currently attending university grants to assist with their educational expenses. Twitch promoted the content on its social media channels, helping drive awareness for their brand.

Influencer Marketing Opportunities

Twitch has more than 15 million daily unique visitors with an average watchtime of 95 minutes of content every day. The platform is literally designed for connection and community building which is the perfect environment for influencer marketing strategies to thrive. In recent years, Twitch and TikTok are the only social media platforms that have seemed to increase focus on influencer marketing. Meanwhile, more traditional platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have only seen a decline.

Finding the right Twitch influencer to partner with is a great way to expose your brand to an established community of loyal followers.

Unlike other platforms, Twitch looks at interaction much differently. Both the streamer and the audience get to see the chat and engage with each other in real time and hold a one-on-one discussion. This is especially great for gaining feedback on a company or product as well as learning about your audience.

Create Your Own Content

Behind Closed Doors

Consumers are often curious about what goes on behind the scenes of their favorite brand, so why not give them a little taste? Is there something exciting happening at the office or a work event? Want to show the world what it's like to be a CEO? Set up your camera and take them along for the ride!

Q&A Session

Whether you have a topic in mind or not; Just Chatting is a great category for your viewer to get to know you. If you're nervous about low attendance, you can always request questions in advance and have some in your back pocket just in case. Once you establish a regular schedule, it'll be easier to get questions and viewers on a regular basis. (NOTE: Even if viewers missed your live stream, they will be able to watch a rerun VOD”Video On Demand”on your main page.)

Online Classes / Webinars

If your business model contains any educational aspects, running an online class or holding a webinar are great ways to build your audience. If your audience likes what they learn, it provides you with the opportunity to connect them to your landing page where they can find more of your content. Think of it like a free sample. You can also repurpose your VOD recordings for clips and content on other social platforms or newsletters.

While Twitch can be an intimidating platform for marketers or business owners to include in their content strategy, those who are willing to put in the effort to build a community have gotten encouraging results. Even though live streaming is now a prominent feature on multiple social platforms, Twitch's ability to customize the user and viewers' experience truly makes it the best.

How to Use Social Media for Hiring

When seeking new employees, sharing open positions on classified pages, Glassdoor, Monster, and other job boards are obvious first steps. Increasingly, however, brands and small businesses are finding success seeking new team members through social media.

According to recent surveys conducted by Glassdoor and Monster, 84% of employers are already using social media as a recruitment tool, and 85% of employers have found that social media helps them connect with passive job seekers.

LinkedIn remains the social media giant of the hiring process“but many businesses find additional success cross-posting on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and other mediums.

How can you leverage your social media presence to recruit the best candidates possible?

1. Create eye-catching graphics.

Share the news that you're hiring across all your social media channels! Link out to the full information about qualifications, benefits, and application portals - a social media post is an opportunity to garner interest, attention, and share a few enticing tidbits about the position, rather than a place to share all relevant legal information.

2. Connect with your current employees.

Build your company's network by connecting with your employees, with their consent, across platforms. Encourage your employees (especially if they love working with you!) to share your hiring post on their channels, and to even add their own opinions and testimonials. You can incentivize employees with rewards for sharing or producing leads.

3. Utilize video content.

Give potential new team members a video tour of your company, process, and introduce them to your current crew. Video content, statistically, performs well across social media platforms. Are you a young company? Fast-paced? Hands-on? Use video content to help develop your company identity so potential employees know exactly what you're about, and so you can attract the right talent. Check out an example from KO Studio on TikTok below.

4. Highlight your company's strengths.

What are aspects of your employee experience, company ethos, or workplace culture of which you're particularly proud? Highlight them on social media! Many young employees are looking not only for a company to pay them well, but for a company to offer benefits, healthy work culture, and perks. Share your company's best features across platforms.

Whether you're actively hiring or open to passive job seekers, building your company's social media presence will help generate leads and connect you to the best people for the job!

It's Julieta!

First, the obvious question: Why did you choose Random Agency?

It was the connection with both Lauren and Meghan who interviewed me. The energy and conversation we had left me feeling really good about what I could learn from them and the work we could create together. Working at Random allows for parts of my writing craft that can get rusty when writing longer format stories to come out of hibernation.

@staybeyondgreen - They're a company that works with sustainable lodging around the world. By promoting them and informing their followers about these places all in one place makes it easier for me to know where I could stay if I ever went somewhere. I always loved traveling and moving around but since finding out how much unnecessary pollution it brings to the earth I've wanted to adopt a gentler approach to it.

I really wish I could play guitar better. I learned through the pandemic!

Which three things would you take to a desert island?

What's in your refrigerator right now?

My superpower would be to pick up and retain the skills for new editing/design/production software, without the hours of agonizing pain.
